Depending on where you live, you may not get sunshine all year round. There might be months where it’s physically painful to be outside (got to love Midwestern winters!). But because of this, I feel like I have a deeper appreciation for the sun and am genuinely happy when it’s 50 degrees or more.
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the warm months so far this summer, taking advantage of all the outdoor activities that make me a happy human. With that being said, here are the things that I’ve been loving this summer:
Go for Early Morning Walks. The best way to start the morning is to go for a brisk walk, taking in the fresh air, and listening to an educational podcast. Trust me, there is nothing more inspiring than all these things combined.
Go for Evening Strolls. My all-time favorite thing in the summer is to go for nighttime strolls. After dinner, put on your shoes, and go for a nice walk around your neighborhood. Whether it be by yourself, with your dog, or your significant other, enjoy some peaceful time alone or some genuine engaged conversation to connect with someone who matters to you. T-shirt and shorts weather is so dang refreshing. Also, walking will help you digest.
Take Care of Your Skin. Now is the time to start caring about your skin. Don’t wait until there are signs of aging or wrinkles showing. Don’t convince yourself it’s better to be tan. Of course I love bronzed skin just like the rest of us, but please please PLEASE protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. I swear by FRÉ Skincare. My 2 summer must-haves are (1) Protect Me which is a defense facial moisturizer with SPF 30 and (2) Protect Body which is a defense moisturizing lotion for you whole body. My biggest regret is that I didn’t start taking care of my skin until I was 23. Shop here and use code FITMANDI for 15% off.
Read More. Reading is so relaxing, calming, and just such a complete mental escape, which is so needed with the hustle and bustle of life. Lay outside and take in the summer breeze. Let reading put you to sleep each night. Reading is the best way to consistently educate yourself every single day.
Go To Your Local Farmer’s Market. Get the freshest of produce straight from the garden to your kitchen all while supporting your local economy.
Exercise in the Park. What a nice change of scenery, not to mention the fresh air and cool breeze. Take advantage of these things that you’re not able to do year round. Don’t know what to do? Here’s a few ideas: run around a soccer field, sprints, skipping, push-ups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, jump squats, mountain climbers, etc. There are a million and two body-weight exercises you can do.
Get 30 Minutes of Exercise Each Day. There is no easier time to get in shape than during the summer months. I’m never as motivated in the winter when it’s dark outside 90% of the time either, so fall in love with moving your body this summer.
Grill Out. Is there anything better than grilled food? Chicken breast, burgers, venison hot dogs, tofu, vegetables—you name it, it tastes better fresh from the grill. My goal is to meal prep with grilled goodies as much as possible.
Go Hiking. National parks, state parks, local parks—there are SO many options far and wide. You don’t need to travel internationally to explore new places.
Go Berry Picking. Exercise, fresh produce, and supporting your local farmers—need I say more?
This hot and humid weather can be miserable, but there are so many amazing things about summertime. Get out there and enjoy it!
